What Is the Child Dental Benefits Schedule?

The Child Dental Benefits Schedule (CDBS) is an Australian Government initiative providing essential dental services to eligible children aged 0 to 17.
The program provides up to $1,158 in benefits per child across a two-year period.

Covered treatments include:

  • Routine check-ups and cleans
  • Digital X-rays
  • Protective fissure sealants
  • Dental fillings
  • Root canal therapy
  • Tooth extractions

Please note that the CDBS does not cover orthodontic work, cosmetic dental procedures, or any treatments performed in a hospital setting.

How Do I Check My Child’s Eligibility?

Your child qualifies for the CDBS if they meet these requirements:

• They are aged 0 to 17 years at any point in the calendar year.

• They are fully eligible for Medicare.

• You or your child receive a qualifying Australian Government payment (such as Family Tax Benefit Part A) at least once during the year.

To verify your family’s eligibility status, please log into your MyGov account or visit the official Services Australia website.

What Can You Claim?

Eligible children receive a cap of $1,158 over two consecutive calendar years. This two-year window triggers during the first calendar year your child is eligible and receives their first dental treatment.

*Dental treatment is completely free of out-of-pocket costs when eligible services are processed via Medicare bulkbilling by participating dentists at QV Dental.
