What is the difference between OHTs and Dentists?
Oral Health Therapists (OHTs) and dentists both play vital roles in oral healthcare, but their scopes of practice differ. OHTs typically focus on preventive care and treatment, including dental hygiene, scaling and cleaning, fluoride treatments, and providing education on oral health practices. They may also perform certain restorative procedures, particularly for children. Dentists, on the other hand, are qualified to diagnose, treat, and manage a broader range of dental issues, including complex restorative work, extractions, and oral surgery. OHTs and dentists work collaboratively to provide comprehensive care.
